15 October 2020
SAGE Automation has been announced as award finalists in four different awards across the defence and transport industries this month.
The awards include Defence Manufacturer of the Year for the 2020 Australian Defence Industry Awards, SA/NT Business and Industry Solution for the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) iAwards, and two awards for the 2020 ITS Australia National awards.
Australian Defence Industry Awards 2020 Finalist – Defence Manufacturer of the Year
SAGE was nominated for ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ for its contribution to the defence industry in the Australian Defence Industry Awards 2020.
The Australian Defence Industry Awards are designed to celebrate the businesses and people who support the supply chain and contribute to the defence industry in Australia. SAGE was also a finalist in the manufacturing category in 2019.
This year, SAGE delivered a number of large-scale defence projects including console manufacture and assembly for Saab Australia and the design, manufacture and commissioning of cubic modular switchboards for the Navy’s Paluma-class vessels.
The modular switchboards designed and manufactured by SAGE for BAE Systems
and the Royal Australian Navy.
“It's fantastic to be recognised for the second successive year of the Defence Industry awards. SAGE continues to invest in our manufacturing capability and capacity, so this recognition underpins our investment," said SAGE Group’s National Defence Manager, Paul Johnson.
Over the past few years, SAGE’s defence manufacturing capability has also expanded into major infrastructure projects, particularly in the Northern Territory.
The 2020 Australian Defence Industry Awards will be announced virtually on November 26th.
Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) iAwards SA/NT 2020 Finalist –Business and Industry Solution
Matilda, SAGE Automation’s smart transit hub, is a finalist in the 2020 iAwards Business and Industry Solution category for South Australia and the Northern Territory.
The iAwards recognise and reward the Australian innovations making a difference and creating positive change for the community.
Matilda was designed to deliver a seamless passenger experience and to increase accessibility for passengers with mobility, vision, hearing or cognitive impairments. Already demonstrating value for first-mile last-mile connections with autonomous vehicle trials, Matilda can also be quickly embedded into existing networks to increase access to services.
SAGE's smart transit hub, Matilda, can be embedded into existing transit networks to
improve the user experience.
Being named a finalist is a testament to the leading edge technology Matilda combines to improve user experience, including IBM Watson’s cognitive voice assistance, Kin Trans vision system for interpretation of sign language, customisable interactive screen with rotation and intuitive display, and T-coil loop to connect to hearing aids.
“SAGE is proud to be recognised for the SA/NT iAwards. SAGE has been rising to the forefront as a technology leader in the transport and mobility industries, all manufactured in Australia” said SAGE Automation's General Manager for Transport, Damian Hewitt.
The iAward winners will be announced via a virtual ceremony on October 15th.
ITS Australia National Awards 2020 Finalist – two categories
Announced this week, SAGE is proud to have been named a finalist in two categories of the 2020 ITS Australian National Awards. The categories are the Intelligent Mobility Award for Matilda and the Smart Transport Infrastructure Award for SAGE Edge.
In addition to the smart mobility benefits mentioned above, Matilda demonstrated the value of wayfinding software. This technology has evolved into SAGE’s digital kiosks, a number of which have been installed in parks, gardens and on city streets to improve service discovery in the surrounding communities.
The SAGE Edge device collects data for analysis in custom algorithms that enable understanding of pedestrian and traffic movement patterns. It has become highly sought-after by road authorities, local government and tourism operators to inform decision-making and long-term planning.
"We couldn't be more proud to be recognised as finalists for two ITS Australia awards. SAGE has been dedicated to developing technological solutions that provide great community outcomes and it is excellent to be recognised by ITS Australia peers," said SAGE Automation's General Manager for Transport, Damian Hewitt.
The annual ITS Australia National Awards celebrate the innovations and influence of Intelligent Transport Systems across the transport industry in Australia. This year saw ITS receive the largest number of submissions ever, with finalists representing the best from across Australia’s transport technology industry.
The award winners will be announced via a virtual ceremony on November 26th.
