Hills M2 Tunnel PLC replacement and PMCS upgrade
Published: April 25, 2016 - Updated: June 22, 2016
Overview
The twin bore Norfolk Tunnels on one of Sydney’s busiest motorways are being widened to accommodate the increased traffic volumes over the coming decades. As a part of these works, the tunnels safety critical PLC based Plant Management and Control System (PMCS) was replaced and its operational software upgraded.
Solution
SAGE was appointed to review, research and redevelop the PMCS Control code, design the replacement hardware platform, develop the OMCS interface with third party systems supplier and I/O migration from the existing redundant platform to the upgraded replacement.
SAGE undertook extensive Factory and Site acceptance testing and control simulation testing to mitigate change-out risk for the Client and the Hills M2 Users.
Result
The works took place under live traffic given the strategic nature of the toll road within the Sydney Motorway network.
