In Sydney, the average commute time is the longest in Australia, 71.5 minutes. With strong business and residential growth anticipated in Sydney’s northwest, even greater pressure is expected on the daily commute in this region.
To deliver more efficient and integrated transport in Sydney’s northwest, Transurban, who manage and develop urban toll road networks throughout Australia, devised an alternative to the busy Pacific Highway and Lane Cove Road-Epping Road routes, by constructing a new eastbound on-ramp to the
Hills M2 Motorway (M2) at Lane Cove Road.
M2 is a 21km motorway that links the lower north shore and the northwest regions of Sydney and is a key part of Sydney’s orbital motorway network and public transport corridor. The new Lane Cove Road on-ramp, removes up to 20 sets of traffic lights and 20 minutes travel time for commuters from the alternative route.
But the on-ramp is just part of the story. Transurban recognises that improvement in traffic flow is delivered by infrastructure as well as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and this is where Fulton Hogan called on SAGE Automation.
