Project

The Port Thevenard Heavy Mineral Concentrate (HMC) Storage and Shipping Facility is located near Ceduna in South Australia. The facility includes storage of up to 50,000 tonnes of HMC and loading facilities from the Jacinth and Ambrosia mineral sanddeposits.

This scope included the supply of both the Stockpile and Conveyor Low Voltage motor control centres (MCCs) with installation, programming, testing and commissioning of a PLC based control system in accordance with contract drawings and specifications.

MCC and panel specifications

SAGE Automation designed and manufactured custom industrial control panels and MCCs for the Port Thevenard Heavy HMC Storage and Shipping Facility.

MCCs:

  • 2 x certified Form 4b fabricated switchboards, 800A approx. 7M long

New control panels:

  • 4x local control station (LCS)
  • 1x variable frequency drive (VFD)
  • 1x human machine interface (HMI)
  • 2x junction boxes (JBox)

The following hardware was installed in existing panels:

  • 3x 90kW soft starters
  • 2x active filters
  • 1x 75kW VFD with chokes

Outcome

Unique project outcomes were obtained through partnership with Broadspectrum. SAGE successfully completed all work within a tight timeframe to meet scheduled ship loading deadlines.

This involved overcoming unforseen site issues and developing innovative solutions as the project matured. SAGE delivered certainty for Broadspectrum and Iluka with an exceptional product that exceeded the customer’s expectations.
