SAGE Automation’s data capture device, SAGE Edge, has been recognised at the 2020 ITS Australia National Awards, taking out the Smart Transport Infrastructure Award.

The award presentation took place via an online award ceremony on November 26th, celebrating the growth and achievements of the Australian Intelligent Transport Systems industry.

A new category in 2020, the Smart Transport Infrastructure Award recognises an organisation for innovations that drive excellence in transport infrastructure and network management.

“SAGE is very proud to win the Smart Transport Infrastructure Award, and our team are honoured to be recognised by ITS Australia. SAGE Edge has a huge impact on the industry, through improving congestion management for the transport network and keeping the community safe,” said Adrian Fahey, SAGE Group Managing Director and CEO.

SAGE Edge has been sold to nearly every road authority in Australia, as well as demonstrating value for tourism applications and smart city streetscapes.

The innovative data capture application is changing the way transport and smart cities clients use data to improve community and transport network user experiences. The device captures Bluetooth MAC addresses and ties them into platforms to provide real-time travel information on the road network to resolve congestion issues.

Real-time data collected by SAGE Edge can display information critical to planning, such as providing an estimate of visitors to a location at a particular time, or estimates of the number of visits per site over time and peak times of visitor interest.

SAGE General Manager for Transport, Damian Hewitt, said the award is great recognition for the dedicated SAGE employees who have spent many hours developing the technology for use across ITS and smart cities sectors.

“The team are continually building our knowledge, ideas and applications to help drive benefits for the community, and the data insight that SAGE Edge provides is instrumental to help with planning smart cities of the future,” he said.

SAGE Edge connects with existing area sensors, integrates with traffic signals and future vehicle-to-infrastructure communication.

The Edge device is scalable and designed for use in both large quantities and for smaller networks such as local councils. It can be paired with SAGE Edge’s Centralised Management and Monitoring System (CMMS), to enable remote monitoring and management of devices across a network.
