National Centre for Excellence in Desalination

Published: May 4, 2016 - Updated: June 22, 2016

Overview

Located within Murdoch University’s Rockingham campus is Australia’s first Desal Discovery Centre and a dedicated $5 million Desalination Research Facility.  The desalination testing and water science education facility houses the National Centre of Excellence in Desalination Australia (NCEDA) who will manage $20 million research fund over five years from the Australian Government’s National Urban Water and Desalination Plan.

NCEDA is a consortium of 13 universities and CSIRO collaborating to improve desalination technology with Australian and international research institutions, private companies, water and power utilities, and government agencies.

SAGE was engaged by Waternish to provide the automation, control and integration services for the NCEDA pilot plant testing facility.

Solution

The controlling of the pilot test facility includes the reticulation and blending of varying types of feed water for the various pilot plants trailed at the facility, and is used to control chemical dosing and disposal, advanced data acquisition, trending, overall monitoring and control of the facility.

Result

The design, construction and commissioning services by SAGE were implemented to provide flexibility for testing multiple innovative and emerging desalination technologies brought to the site by world leading researchers for the enhancement of the Australian desalination industry.
