SAGE has a multimillion dollar industrial power and control panel manufacturing facility, to support custom design and build of electrical panels and power switchboards for industrial control and automation systems. SAGE carries out detailed Factory Acceptance Testing  standards as part of the internal quality process prior to shipping and installation. This both confirms functional operation before onsite installation and minimises commissioning and testing time. It also provides an excellent opportunity for clients to assess system functionality and obtain detailed test documentation.

Challenge

ABB Microgrids’ High Power Test Facility is able to test multiple PowerStore configurations such as Containerised PowerStore-Battery and Skid-mounted Powerstore  Battery.

The most recent test involving a PowerStore Battery and Flywheel required appropriate mains equipment to handle 3MVA ratings in addition to 150% overload for 30 seconds. This 3MVA rating was aligned to PCS100 – the maximum rating that can be assembled in a single system.

Solution

SAGE Automation designed, manufactured and tested a High Power Test Main Distribution Board (MBD) according to these strict requirements. The 5000A MDB can be used to interconnect with the PowerStore ESS/Flywheel, diesel generator and load bank, as well as perform the  owerstore Power Test. It can be installed in existing or newly set up control rooms.

This enabled ABB Microgrids to perform their testing of  new configurations with guaranteed reliability and safety.
